  1. The worst episode in many ways, this episode was retconned by the web series Star Trek Continues. They made the no women captains ruling an unpopular rule, but necessary as a compromise with the federation member Tellerites, who are evidently not just pig people, but also male chauvinist pig people.

This episode was a blender of some of the worst Trek themes and most uncharacteristic writing.

I assume mind melds are not evidence the same way that lie detector tests are not admissible today… can some people/beings fool them? or perhaps they are considered hearsay, and not eye witness.

Any way you look at it, it’s a poor episode to go out on. Luckily, reruns are often shown in random order, so most of us never saw any character arcs anyway.

  2. Congratulations on making it to the end! I’m thrilled to hear you have plans to go on to TAS and movies and NextGen (and beyond?). Just a quick comment: The recording-conversations-in-the-corridor-and-presenting-it-as-evidence in a court martial is not at all new. Don’t forget that in the episode Court Martial we have very nicely cinematographed recordings of what’s happening on the bridge—complete with zoom-ins on Kirk’s hand—presented as evidence that Kirk murdered that guy. So it’s not introducing completely new tech to have a way of recording things happening in the ship.
