  1. The scene with Scotty huffing knock-out gas by the lungful was going to be very different – originally the script had the crew making tranquiliser darts, then getting Scotty to bend over and let them use his bum for a dartboard. However, NBC’s Broadcast Standards team thought this was not appropriate, and besides impressionable young minds might be tempted to emulate this exciting new sport of the future:

“Please find some other way to test the tranquilizing solution, as throwing the dart-needle across the room into Scotty’s extended buttock is not acceptable… Darts and other sharp objects are easily available and, especially in the hands of a child, imitation could be extremely dangerous.”

  2. The 1957 “Gunfight at the OK Corral” with DeForest Kelley as Morgan Earp has a quite young Dennis Hopper as Billy Clanton (the Chekov part in this load of old nonsense).

I’d like to think there’s a parallel (Mirror, Mirror?) universe where DeForest Kelley plays the mad photographer in “Apocalypse Now”, and Dennis Hopper spent his career in a starship sickbay… 🙂
