Requiem for Methuselah – Episode 75

This week, Kirk goes crazy over a woman he just met. Like, really nutty on Requiem for Methuselah!

Special thanks to Chad Fifer for our theme tune and to Greig Johnson for his vocal stylings!

Next episode: The Way to Eden!

  1. The Enterprise’s visual sensors _could_ be picking up Kirk’s image and projecting it onto the view screen, and it just _seems_ like Kirk is reacting to seeing the shrunken bridge crew in stasis cuz film language is lying to the audience. Yeah, that’s it.

This is a spectacular podcast, and I really hope you guys continue into at least the Next Generation! I need to look into donating.

  2. I found this episode a bit of a snoozefest, with poor characterisation and a rough plot too. This was one of the last handful of TOS episodes to be shot; by this point a lot of the creative talent had left, budgets were thin and everyone suspected they were going to be cancelled so I suppose it’s kind of inevitable that quality would suffer. Fortunately, whilst the quality of the remaining season 3 episodes is questionable at least we have some more bizarre ones coming up!

  3. I remember reading the James Blish written adaptation of this episode back in the 70s, and not remembering ever having seen it. I’m sure I had, but just did not remember it at the time. When I did see it again I was much more forgiving of it for having read Blish’s work. I’m sure he added bits to the narrative that more satisfactorily explained many a plot hole, or wild conundrum. While the episodes may be “canon,” I would always defer to his interpretations, as they always seemed to make more sense at the time.
